Bird species include Crested Caracaras, Macaws, and Mot Mots. Lurking amongst the mangroves are the notoriously elusive American crocodiles and below the surface one can spot Black Marlins, Hunchback whales, and Turtles, the latter consisting of an impressive five different species group which cycle back every year to lay their eggs.

Tortuga Verde/Negra

This species presents the greatest variation in coloration throughout their range of distribution, ranging from mottled white to black; The dorsal surface of their heads and fins are olive green, and may have shades of dark gray or black.
Tortuga Carey / Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata)
This species is considered perhaps the most vulnerable of all sea turtle species in the world; They sit on the brink of extinction due to the numerous impacts on its populations and habitats around the world. The Hawksbill turtle is distributed in the tropical and subtropical seas such as the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans.
Tortuga Golfina
(Lepidochelys olivacea)
Also known as the The Olive Ridley turtle, it is considered the most abundant marine chelonian species today. In Mexico they are distributed alongside the Pacific coast, currently having its largest nesting concentration areas in Oaxaca.
Tortuga Laúd / Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea)
It is the largest marine reptile to exist and can measure up to 178 cm. They are distinctively lacking any scales on their entire body, which is instead covered with soft black leathery texture, white spots.
Tortuga Caguama / Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta caretta)
This species has a very complex life cycle defined by various juvenile stages that occupy diverse habitats. Unlike other species they are carnivorous throughout its life cycle, and use their thick beak, broad head and strong jaws to crush shells and large mollusks.
Tortuga Lora/ Kemp's Ridley (Lepydochelys kempii)
They are the smallest of all the sea turtles to exist and approximately 90% of their nesting occurs in Tamaulipas, and the rest of their life cycle taking place along the Gulf of Mexico and the southeastern United States.
